A New Day, A New Life, A New Year!
Happy New Year!
I hope yours is off to a wonderful start! I have been very busy with the changes that growing babies bring as a new mom. My daughter is a wonder to behold. I am very blessed that she decided to make space for me in her life.
This blog will also be seeing some good and prosperous changes. Now that my little one is beginning to transition from homemade formula to solids, I will be expanding the vision of this site to incorporate whole foods based nutrition information for families of color whose diets are primarily vegetarian and vegan. Women in their childbearing years who are seeking solid exercise, nutrition, and supplement information for womb wellness from pre-conception and beyond can find resources here. Reviews of holistic products, news, and information concerning children's health and wellness will also be included.
It is such a pleasure to be here! I hope you find it to be the same for you.

"Mama's Goodstuff" Homemade Formula
Here is another fabulous recipe for homemade formula by L. Williams. This is goat's milk based, an excellent alternative to soy, rice, seed and nut-based formulas.
36 ounces distilled water
1/8 cup organic black strap molasses
1/8 cup walnut oil
1/8 cup organic unrefined virgin coconut oil
1/8 cup cold pressed extra virgin olive oil
2TSP nutritional yeast flakes
5 scoops Meyenburg powdered goats milk
1TBSP organic agave nectar
1/4 TSP baby bifidus live cultures
1/4TSP liquid pediavites
"I warmed the distilled water and added the molasses and agave nectar and then transferred the mixture to a glass blender and added the oils, yeast flakes, and milk powder and blended for about 30 seconds. I let the mixture cool and then added the cultures and vitamins. This will make 9 4 oz bottles with a little left over."
Her daughter's skin "is clearing up very quickly and is looking so much better."
Congrats L. Williams for making the transition! Thank you for sharing the goodness!

"Mama's Sweet Brown Baby" Homemade Formula
Here's the recipe that got this blog started:
2 cups rice milk
2 cups hemp milk
1/2 tsp blackstrap molasses
1 tbsp flax seed oil
2 tbsp brown rice protein powder
1 tbsp liquid infant multi-vitamin
1 drop Vitamin D drops 400 IU (optional)
1/4 tsp infant probiotics
I call my daughter "My Little Molasses Cookie" because she smells so delicious all the time! This is an excellent alternative to soy and other casein pre-digested/hypoallergenic formulas that are on the market. It does provide all the recommended vitamins, nutrients, and minerals required for an infant's growing needs in accordance to the RDA without sacrificing a whole foods lifestyle.
I had to stop breastfeeding my daughter when she got thrush, an oral yeast infection indicative of milk protein allergy. I reluctantly put her on soy formula until I could find a more suitable alternative. I knew intuitively soy milk was going to cause health issues, and this proved correct! She immediately broke out in a rash, had eczema, major indigestion, and started wheezing. I did my research on the ingredients in both soy and hypoallergenic formulas (yuck!) and couldn't believe why the pediatrician would recommend this "food" at all. I found a good rice milk based recipe and altered it to include hemp milk. Hemp milk has high levels of Omega 3-6 oils which are necessary for brain development, a major fat component that rice milk lacks.
My daughter's problems from soy formula began to clear up within two days. The eczema took about a month to leave completely. According to her *new* pediatrician, her weight and height gain are consistent with the growth guidelines of a healthy 3 month-old infant.
I also add a flower and gem essence elixir to balance my daughter on an energetic level to ease her transition from womb to world. Some recommendations are Bach's Rescue Remedy, Alaskan Essences Indigo Essences, and DHerbs.com Magical Alchemical Elixir.
